Introducing Two New NAGC Special Interest Groups

NAGC is excited to announce the launch of two new Special Interest Groups (SIGs), created to foster collaboration, professional growth, and community among members with shared interests and expertise in gifted education.

Whether you are passionate about developing teacher leadership or advocating for profoundly gifted learners, these new SIGs offer opportunities to connect, collaborate, and contribute to meaningful work in the field.

PK–12 Teacher Leader Special Interest Group

The PK–12 Teacher Leader SIG was created for educators who believe leadership extends beyond formal titles. Rooted in the idea that every practitioner supporting gifted learners has the capacity to influence and lead, this SIG is designed to cultivate a dynamic community of educators committed to improving outcomes for gifted students.

Members will have opportunities to:

  • Share practical, classroom-tested instructional strategies across grade levels and content areas
  • Collaborate through peer-led discussions and inquiry-based learning
  • Develop presentation proposals and participate in “test-run” forums
  • Exchange resources and ideas that advance innovation and advocacy in gifted education

This SIG also serves as an pathway for future NAGC leaders by empowering educators to amplify their voices, integrate research into practice, and promote equitable excellence across the field.

Profoundly Gifted Special Interest Group

The Profoundly Gifted SIG focuses on supporting learners with extraordinary abilities whose academic, intellectual, creative, or social-emotional needs often require specialized understanding and intervention.

This SIG recognizes that profoundly gifted learners may demonstrate advanced abilities in a variety of ways and that identification should extend beyond traditional measures alone. The group is committed to raising awareness, advancing research, and advocating for meaningful support systems that help profoundly gifted learners thrive.

Members will have opportunities to:

  • Network and collaborate with professionals and caregivers focused on profoundly gifted learners
  • Share resources and evidence-supported practices
  • Explore research and advocacy related to profoundly gifted education
  • Build connections across specialties within NAGC
  • Engage in conversations about the academic and social-emotional needs of profoundly gifted children and youth

By creating a collaborative professional community, this SIG aims to ensure profoundly gifted learners are better understood, supported, and empowered to reach their fullest potential.

How to Join a SIG

NAGC members are welcome to join Special Interest Groups that align with their interests and professional goals.

Instructions for joining or leaving a SIG can be found here: How to Join and Leave a Network or Special Interest Group

We encourage members to explore these new communities and connect with colleagues who share their passion for supporting gifted and talented learners.
