June is Pride Month, and this year in particular it's going to be an especially important moment for the LGBTQ+ and Ally community. Gifted LGBTQ+ young people in particular are susceptible to the seemingly endless news stream of shifting policies, laws, and national attitudes challenging LGBTQ+ rights and identity. However, Pride Month is a reminder that joy can overcome despair and be a powerful instrument for resistance! Join the NAGC LGBTQ+ Network as we highlight and celebrate the joyful things educators, families, and young people can do to keep spirits up and help enact positive change.

Rebecca C. Hershey is SVP of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging at the Human Rights Campaign, working to build a world where LGBTQ+ people - and all families - can thrive. A civil rights lawyer by training, she brings compassion and clarity to people-centered culture change. Brooklyn-born, Maine-raised, and DC-based, she’s a mom of three teens who believes in the power of justice and joy to move us forward.
Jamie Henkel (she/her) is the Vice President, Learning & Inclusion at PFLAG National. Jamie oversees the development and creation of new resources, including educational workshops, for PFLAG National’s Straight for Equality, PFLAG Academy Online, and Creating Pride in Families programs.
Damon R. Carbajal (he/él) is a gay, genderqueer, Chicanx organizer, educator, and leader. He holds an MA in Chicanx Studies and a B.A. in Education. He currently is the Director of Chapter Network & Program Integration for Glisten, adjunct faculty at CNM, and sits on the NM EdTA board. Damon’s work focuses on centering lost voices with a focus on LGBTQ+, Chicanx, and intersectional communities.
Matt Haslam, aka Professor Pride, is the host of the accredited show, Powered By Rainbows with over 15 Million viewers worldwide. He is an Amazon Best-Selling author with 48 LGBTQ books to his credit. He's been awarded by YouTube as an LGBTQ Creator of the Year, the Silver Play Button, and the Gilbert Baker Awards.
Doug Alexander, MA, NBCT, is a gifted education specialist in Boulder, CO, and the chair of the NAGC LGBTQ+ Network. He presents on a variety of Gifted Education topics, with special focus on gifted LGBTQ+ intersectional identity.
Cory Chung has worked as an educator of gifted students for the past 9 years and is currently the Communications Chair/Newsletter Editor for the LGBTQ+ Network of the National Association for Gifted Children. Cory was recently a peer reviewer for NAGC's LEAP Guidebook for Culturally Responsive Teaching for Gifted and High Potential Students and its accompanying online modules. This upcoming summer, he will be an Academic Dean for Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth, for which he has also served as a Dean of Students and Assistant Academic Dean. Prior to that, he served as an Assistant Curriculum Coordinator and teacher of middle school math and writing at the Speyer School, an independent school for gifted learners.
