Professional Bio
Barry B. Gelston, Ed.D. is an educator, researcher, and advocate specializing in twice-exceptional (2e) and neurodivergent learners. As co-chair of the NAGC 2e Special Interest Group, he leads community conversations, panels, and resource development focused on uplifting lived experiences and advancing strength-based educational practices.
With over 20 years of experience, Dr. Gelston’s work integrates constructivist learning, adaptive connection, and the Spiral Model of Development to support gifted and 2e students both in and out of school. He is the founder of Mr. Gelston’s One Room Schoolhouse and co-founder of Spiral We, a research and professional development initiative for connected parenting, teaching, and learning.
His doctoral dissertation, Grinding the 2e Lens: Flipping the Paradigm to Adaptive Connection (2024), extends theoretical frameworks from Bronfenbrenner and Dąbrowski into practical tools for educators and parents. Dr. Gelston’s mission is to build bridges between research, practice, and lived experience so that gifted and twice-exceptional individuals can thrive.
