Publishing Books with NAGC
NAGC publishes books addressing the needs of gifted and talented children. The NAGC Publications Committee coordinates the solicitation, review, and publication of materials deemed relevant and timely for teachers, administrators, counselors, psychologists, university personnel, and families.
We invite you to consider publishing your research, ideas, strategies, and practices in one of two ways with NAGC.
NAGC Co-Publication
Co-publications are books produced in conjunction with NAGC—consistent with the mission and goals of NAGC—but originate outside of the organization. Collaborative projects are subject to review by the Publications Committee, which assesses the quality and appropriateness of the publication for NAGC.
Review of the substantive content is required prior to publication. The likelihood of the proposed publication being approved as a collaborative publication with NAGC is increased if the project is reviewed at the conceptual stage. Copublications may be already accepted by a publisher but not yet published. Authors of collaborative publications do not receive remuneration for their work from NAGC and royalties from the publication are negotiated by NAGC, the author, and the publisher. Copyright is negotiated by the author and the publisher. Collaborative publications approved by the NAGC Publications Committee may display the following statements prominently on the cover, “A Joint Publication with the National Association for Gifted Children,” “Published in Partnership with NAGC,” or “A Publication of the National Association for Gifted Children.”
NAGC Service Publication
Service publications typically originate from within the organization. They are created and supported at the request of the Board of Directors or from the work of a task force, committee, or network. They are deliberately solicited and designed to further the specific goals of the organization.
Authors do not expect to receive remuneration for their work and 100% of any royalties generated are returned to NAGC. The body charged with writing the content receives input from the Publications Committee on both the conceptual framework of the project (e.g., goals, foci, outline, structure, format) and the substantive content of the final product (e.g., sample chapters). The Publications Committee carries out the review process in accordance with approved procedures.
Submitting a Manuscript Proposal
Before the NAGC Publications Committee considers publishing a book or e-book, a prospectus from the author or editor is reviewed. The NAGC book prospectus requires interested authors to consider the following:
- The proposed title
- The name, title, affiliation, address, telephone, and e-mail address of each lead author or editor
- A brief statement of the book's purpose, its benefit to NAGC members, and how the book differs from others
- The intended audience for the publication
- How the project supports the NAGC strategic plan
- The anticipated length of the publication
- The proposed timeline for the project
- An outline of the major headings or chapter titles and, if an edited title, proposed authors for each
- Other books, articles, or monographs published by the lead author(s) or editor(s)
- Potential competitive titles and suggestions for marketing the book
- Sample chapters of the work
Please submit your book proposal to the NAGC Books Submissions form. Submissions are considered by the NAGC Publications Committee on an ongoing basis.
