In-Depth District Program Evaluation

An in-depth program evaluation is a thorough process completed by experts in the field of gifted education that systematically reviews all elements of the district’s program to assess compliance with state regulations, adherence to best practices in gifted education, and internal cohesiveness of program elements. An in-depth program evaluation generally occurs over a period of a semester and involves the collection and analysis of both qualitative and quantitative data.

The consultant conducts a two-day site visit for building visits and stakeholder interviews. Additionally, a half day would be set aside following the site visit for any additional interviews with stakeholders that were unable to be conducted during the site visit. The school district would continue to work closely with the consultant throughout the entire data collection process. A formal report is written that details the findings based on the triangulated analysis of all data sources. Specific recommendations that stem from these findings are articulated to guide the development and enhancement of programs and services for gifted students.

District Program Review

A program review is a less formal process appropriate for districts that either need initial guidance in program development or who want general recommendations for ways to improve their programs. The process could be completed with a two-day site visit or all remotely. The process includes interviews with individuals key to program improvement and development (e.g., administrators, school counselors, teachers) and a review of identification procedures, written policies, curriculum outlines, and other program documents. After discussions and data review, the consultant writes up the findings for each program area (i.e., identification, services, curriculum, affective needs, professional learning, and program effectiveness) along with suggestions to guide program development and improvement.
