From Framework to Fidelity
As MTSS has become the standard for meeting diverse student needs, including gifted education in this framework is both a challenge and an opportunity. Gifted learners need more than one-size-fits-all solutions, and MTSS offers a framework to meet their needs. This interactive preconvention session brings together voices from research, policy, and practice to explore how MTSS can be used to equitably identify and serve gifted students.  Registration Ends 11/13/25 at 11:00 AM EST

Identifying Hidden Talent
There is a need for inclusive methods to identify gifted students, especially from underrepresented groups. A Javits-funded initiative has tested an observation checklist to identify talent during elementary classroom activities, focusing on higher-order thinking and problem-solving. In this session, we share activities and the checklist, offering educators tools to identify and later serve gifted students often overlooked by traditional assessments. Registration Ends 11/13/25 at 11:00 AM EST

Teacher Rating Scales: Promises and Pitfalls
Does your district use teacher rating scales as part of its identification process (or are you considering including them)? In this session, we discuss considerations for selecting, implementing, and interpreting teacher rating scales. We explore pros and cons of using teacher rating scales to identify students as gifted, and we provide advice on how to use them most effectively. Registration Ends 11/13/25 at 11:00 AM EST
$150.00
Understanding, Identifying & Developing Creativity
Improving our understanding of creativity leads to more effective classroom support. Engage in hands-on opportunities to improve gifted identification using creativity and infuse existing curriculum with creative thinking skill development. Explore a variety of topics including contextualized divergent thinking, creative self-beliefs, creative micro-moments, and simple ways to integrate creativity in everyday classroom activities and practices. Registration Ends 11/13/25 at 11:00 AM EST
