Javits-Frasier Scholarship Applicant Recommendation Form

NAGC recognizes the vital role of teachers and counselors in identifying and developing gifted and talents in todays's diverse student body.  We support nationwide efforts to provide training to ensure there are highly trained teachers and counselors in every school. The Javits-Fraiser program provides innovative teachers and counselors in Title 1 schools with professional development on gifted education and gifted children.

Scholarship Winners Receive
  • Travel stipend and Hotel Accommodations to attend along with complimentary registration the NAGC 69th Annual Convention in Indiannapolis, IN, November 17-20, 2022.
  • Two-year NAGC individual membership.
  • Participation in Javits-Frasier Scholar ‘roundtable’ discussions with other scholars, members of the NAGC Diversity and Equity Committee, and NAGC leadership.
  • A professional mentor from among the NAGC membership.

The letter of recommendation from their administrator should address the nominee's:

  • Desire and commitment to advocate for culturally and linguistically diverse gifted students
  • Potential to serve as a school leader
  • Support from the administrator for the nominee's participation in this program and efforts to improve opportunities for diverse gifted students after the convention and educate colleagues about the need
  • Characteristics important to their role in increasing support for diverse gifted students in their class and school—e.g., goal orientated, participation in professional development, ability to lead


The second letter of recommendation from a colleague, parent of student, student, or friend should address the nominee's:

  • Potential for contributing to meeting the needs of culturally and linguistically diverse students as a participant in this program
  • Observations of the nominee's interactions with culturally and linguistically diverse students
  • Personal qualities of the nominee as a teacher or counselor, leader, and learner
  • Involvement in their school and community (if possible) or other details that provide insight into why the nominee would be an excellent candidate for this scholarship

The deadline to submit your letter of recommendation for your nominee is May 16, 2022.
