Using the NAGC-CEC Teacher Preparation Standards in the CAEP Accreditation Process

The Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) approved the use of the NAGC-CEC 2013 Teacher Preparation Standards in Gifted Education in the national accreditation process.  Individual programs seeking national recognition submit materials to CAEP that document that teacher candidates in gifted and talented education have mastered the gifted education standards.  Programs that are able to demonstrate candidate mastery of the standards are awarded national recognition.  Note that not all teacher preparation programs in gifted education seek national recognition.

All teacher preparation programs must use the 2013 standards for CAEP program submissions beginning in 2016.  NOTE: Masters programs in gifted education should use the 2013 standards for CAEP program review and not the advanced standards in gifted education.
