The online course and required NAGC CCSS or NGSS books are a valuable resource for all educatorsnot just those who work specifically in gifted programs. The reality is that most gifted children receive their instruction from teachers in heterogeneous classrooms, and these resources can help educators differentiate content and instruction for high-ability learners.

The strategies that the field of gifted education has stressed for decades as important to deep learning and engagement and high achievement--high level, analytical thinking and advanced problem-solving skills--are reflected in the standards. However, the CCSS or NGSS alone will not ensure that gifted children receive the advanced content, accelerative options, and high-level enrichment that they need to be challenged and make continuous progress in their areas of talent.

In this course, educators will understand how to use the CCSS or NGSS as a foundation and how to design learning experiences beyond these standards for those learners who meet the standards earlier and faster. A learner can choose which strand (CCSS-ELA, CCSS-Math, NGSS) in which to participate within each of the four modules for the full six weeks.

Upon completion of each modules activities, the learner receives digital badges. Upon completion of the course, the learner receives a certificate of attendance. After the six weeks, the learner is also given the ability to stay connected to their group and the entire learning environment through discussions and other activities.

Module I: Overview of CCSS (for ELA, Mathematics) & NGSS
Module II: Learning Progressions & Assessment
Module III: Designing and Differentiating Standards-based Lessson
Module IV: Management Strategies & Evaluating Standards-based Instructional Materials

What past participants are saying:

"I just wanted to thank you for this course. As someone with a school psych background (not a teaching background) and who is just beginning the journey of GT learning (working on my GT Coordinator's license), this class really stretched me!"

--Rae McClain

"I really did enjoy exploring the topics of differentiation and standards in application to our higher level students. I actually found it to be quite applicable to all of my students.”

--Diane Danielczyk

“We wanted you to know that we really enjoyed the online course and it has already made such a positive impact on our students within our self contained gifted class. Thank you for that.”
