TEACHING FOR TRANSFORMATION:  EMBRACING COMPLEXITY FOR GIFTED MIDDLE GRADE LEARNERS
Sponsored by the Middle Grades Network

Teachers challenge students in the middle grades by helping them embrace complexity and exposing them to issues surrounding certainty. Teachers encourage complexity and depth of reasoning when they allow students to understand relationships and philosophical awareness through conversation, difference, and interaction. Creativity and wisdom form the core of this approach to curriculum differentiation. What does this look like in the classroom? In this session, attendees receive practical applications of these abstract ideas such as starter prompts, graphic organizers and, instructional strategies. Sample student responses provide concrete evidence as to how middle grade teachers can teach for challenge and transformation.
