NAGC Community Service Award

The National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) annually presents the Community Service Award to an individual or group that has made a contribution that benefits the development of gifts and talents in young people. This contribution must affect the larger community, state, or nation.

The 2010 Annual Awards process is closed. Stay tuned for the results. The 2010 Awards Ceremony will be held during our 57th Annual Convention in Atlanta, Georgia (November 11-14, 2010).

Submission Procedure & Checklist

The NAGC national office will make every effort to contact those who have nominated a colleague, or those who have nominated themselves, to let them know of any missing materials, provided the nomination packet arrives at least two weeks before the deadline. The following materials must be postmarked by April 19, 2010:

  • NAGC Award Nomination Form. May be completed either by a member of NAGC or by the nominee. 
  • One letter of support from the person submitting the nomination that details why the nominee would be an appropriate recipient of the award.
  • Letter must be signed and e-mails will not be accepted.
  • Biographical sketch, vita, and/or supporting documents for the nominee.
  • Please do not use staples when preparing your nomination materials.
  • Nomination materials postmarked after April 19, 2010 will not be considered.


Selection Criteria

 The nominee will be reviewed based on the following:

  • Has made a significant contribution to education, science, the arts, humanities, parenting and the family, public policy, or another field, in a way that benefits the development of gifts and talents in young people.
  • The nature of the work generally characterizes the goals and values of the NAGC and education in a democracy.
  • Contribution must have made an impact on the larger community, state, or nation.


Restrictions

  • An individual may receive this award once.


Selection Procedure

  • All materials should be sent to the Chair of the Awards Committee in care of the NAGC National Office. 
  • The Chair will compile data regarding nomination and distribute this information to the NAGC Awards Committee for review. The Committee will submit its recommendation to the Board of Directors.
  • The recipient(s) of the award, in additional to other applicants, will be notified of the Awards Committee's decision in writing no later than August 31, 2010.

Award

The award recipient will receive a plaque presented in November 2010 at the NAGC Annual Convention in Atlanta, Georgia.
