State of the States in Gifted Education
The State of the States is a biannual report produced by the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) and the Council of State Directors of Programs for the Gifted (CSDPG).
The survey is a compilation and summary of information submitted via an online survey completed by state education agency personnel for gifted education programing in each of the states. The results are the only comprehensive look at the state of gifted education across the country.
The newest State of the States Report for the school year 2008-2009 was released on November 12, 2009. Forty-seven states completed the survey. The resulting picture shows a patchwork of gifted services, little teacher training in recognizing or serving gifted children, modest funding, and a lack of accountability for educating high-ability learners. Gifted education supporters can use the data in State of the States to compare their states with others in the region and country to advocate for stronger gifted policies in their state.
Below is a link to the full report (pdf format). We've also broken the document down for ease of browsing: summary of findings, state data tables, and the questionnaire. We have also posted the brochure, State of the Nation, which is NAGC's overview of key data from the report.
