"This monograph provides the field of gifted education with a blueprint for working in schools with children of poverty, for activating community-based opportunities for them, and for forging new partnerships and collaboratives with universities and other agencies to deliver relevant services."

The Overlooked Gems monograph was developed at a groundbreaking conference that looked at uncovering and working with gifted children in schools with a low-income population. National experts distilled decades of research on how to bring out the best in high-ability students from disadvantaged backgrounds and, with the input from conference attendees, mapped out priorities for action. The conference was co-sponsored by NAGC and the Center for Gifted Education at the College of William & Mary, and was funded by the Jack Kent Cook foundation, Leading authorities from outside of the field brought a rich dimension to the conference.
