Mission
The Research & Evaluation Network's primary mission is to ensure a spirit of inquiry among NAGC members by informing the membership about research needs and methodologies and by encouraging and supporting them in their research efforts. Further, the mission is to develop and promote forums for coordinating research and disseminating it to educators and policy-makers that can make the important difference for all gifted children. Specifically, the Network undertakes activities that will: 1) determine and encourage needed research, methodology, and program evaluation on key topics; 2) determine and encourage presentation of relevant research topics and evaluation and methods in gifted education; 3) determine resources to support research and evaluation in gifted education; 4) establish networks with other relevant professional organizations and NAGC Networks; 5) encourage the use of ethical standards for conducting and reporting research and evaluation in gifted education; and 6) develop guidelines for graduate training that specify research and evaluation skills.

2010 NAGC Annual Convention
Graduate Student Research Gala
The Fifth Annual Graduate Student Research Gala will be held at the 2010 NAGC Conference in Atlanta! This event highlights the high caliber of research conducted by graduate students (of all levels) in the field of gifted education. Categories include doctoral-level and non-doctoral level research. Research may be complete or incomplete.
A letter of intent should be submitted by May 31, 2010, for planning purposes. A paper is submitted by July 1, 2010 to be judged by a panel of experts in gifted education research. The winners will be announced at the graduate student gala at the NAGC conference in Atlanta this November. This is an excellent event to showcase your research projects. It also provides an opportunity for graduate students to network with gifted education researchers.

NEW benefit for members of the NAGC Research & Evaluation Network
Members of the Research and Evaluation Network will now receive access to selected articles biannually from the American Educational Research Association (AERA) publications. The articles will give you a chance to check out research related to gifted education that is being published in general education journals. The links to the first 2 articles are below and will be available to you until mid-October. If you have a suggestion for a 2010 article in an AERA journal that you would like to see us offer in the fall, please email Jill Adelson, Research and Evaluation Membership Chair, at jill.adelson@louisville.edu.
