Dr. Martin D. Jenkins Scholar Award

Sponsored by the Special Populations Network and GRACE SIG

The Dr. Martin D. Jenkins Scholar Award is named in honor of Dr. Jenkins, Father of Research on Gifted Black Students, and it is designed to honor the achievements of highly gifted Black students who excel academically in school.

Eligibility

Applicants must be a Black student enrolled in a public school in grades 6-12 and meet at least three of the following criteria:

  • Early Entrance, MS Dual Enrollment, HS Joint Enrollment

  • Competition Winner

Award Recipeints:

  • will receive $300 scholarship (cash award) and NAGC convention registration
  • are required to attend a featured session at NAGC on Saturday, November 5, 2016
  • are required to share a brief end of year school report and academic progress update
  • will have access to various Ambassador Programming & Peer Mentoring opportunities
  • will be invited to participate in the Jenkins Scholar Alumni Network after 1st year in program
  • Parents will receive 1-year Parent Membership in NAGC and Special Populations Network.

Submissions and Questions

All materials and questions should be emailed to Dr. Kristina Henry Collins, Special Populations Network Scholar Awards Chair.  Awardees and nominators will be notified by email and/or phone call no later than September 16, 2016. Information and directions to attend the special session at the National Association for Gifted Children convention in Orlando, FL will be sent at that time.
