The National Institute of American History & Democracy (NIAHD), a partnership between the College of William & Mary and the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, is proud to offer its exciting Pre-Collegiate Summer Program in Early American History to high school juniors and seniors with a deep commitment to learning about the past. Participants have the option of choosing from one of two American history courses offered during both sessions: "From the Founding of Jamestown through the American Revolution" or "From the American Revolution through the American Civil War." During their 3-week residential experience, participants in our program will earn 4 academic credits at the College of William & Mary, take daily field trips to historic places, museums, archaeology sites, and battlefields, go behind-the-scenes with curators and archaeologists, discuss and analyze history in small seminar groups, and have the option to participate in an active archaeological dig! Students interested in applying should note that a particular background in American history is not required. An open mind, independent thinking, creativity, and above all, a spirit of adventure are the essential ingredients!
