Description: The Young Scholars Discovery program welcomes middle school students to an exceptional learning opportunity at the University of Maryland. From July 14-26, 2013, Discovery nurtures academically talented students who share similar interests, abilities, and goals. Discovery scholars explore career opportunities, engage with experts in innovative fields, collaborate during interactive seminars, and learn about university life at Maryland. The program offers diverse courses that encourage creative reasoning and problem solving. Faculty provide dynamic instruction, challenging students to explore bold ideas and acquire new skills and knowledge. Field trips and guest speakers highlight real-world experiences, introducing students to possible career paths. The learning continues beyond the classroom with interactive afternoon seminars and evening social activities. Seminars offer experiences that focus on conflict resolution and cross-cultural collaboration. Social events include weekend day trips to Washington, DC, barbecues, pool parties, laser tag, and more. Discovery scholars reside on campus or commute from home. Admission is competitive and contingent upon space availability.
