Founded in 1979, Whitworth University’s Center for Gifted Education and Professional Development strives to enhance the quality of education and services for our diverse gifted youth by providing research based teacher education and professional development.
Whitworth’s innovative online programs include a Master of Arts in Teaching emphasis Gifted and Talented and a Specialty Endorsement in Teaching the Gifted that focus not just on teaching highly capable students, but on helping all students succeed in an integrated classroom. As the only university in Washington offering the Specialty Endorsement in Teaching the Gifted, Whitworth demonstrates its commitment to leadership by meeting the needs of education professionals and providing teachers of gifted and talented students cutting-edge training for immediate use in the classroom.
In addition, Whitworth’s Summer Institute for Professional Development offers a variety of short courses, online courses and seminars on the latest trends and research in education. These courses are perfect for educators who are looking to pick up continuing education credits, work on an endorsement or master’s degree. Educators also have the option to complete the online Specialty Endorsement in Teaching the Gifted.
The Center also partners with the community, serves in state and national leadership roles, and pursues scholarship endeavors to advance public understanding and service to gifted youth. To that end, the Center for Gifted Education hosts and co-sponsors several events for gifted youth and their families. These events include the Celebration of Talent, an annual conference for educators, parents and gifted youth, and Camp Metamorphosis, a one week non-residential camp for gifted children enter 4-6th grade.
